Is digitizing embroidery an art or a technical skill? For someone who has been doing this for the past 12 years, I believe it is a combination of the two. The question now is, why is this combination of both? So, in this post, I'd like to share my thoughts on why embroidery digitising is a hybrid of the two:
1. We can all agree that embroidery is a form of art. We can learn the satin stitch, running stitch, and other techniques, but how it is designed, colour combination, and beauty come out only if we have a natural flair. Otherwise, it just doesn't look nice.
2. Patterns in embroidery, like drawing, must be made out, vectorised at times, and the blank spaces must be filled or not. Colors must be coordinated, and so forth. As a result, it requires artistic flair.
3. In embroidery digitising, software is used, which one cannot use without training, making it a technical task to be completed.
4. When using the software, make the best use of the tools at hand to ensure that you are using the correct amount of stitches and not making it too dense or heavy. This necessitates technical knowledge as well as sound judgement.
5. There are times when we do not know the exact size that is required, and we must use our critical judgement and skill set to find the right size that the design can be made into.
As you can see, embroidery digitizing is a combination of art and technology. If you have that perfect combination, you can provide the highest level of service to your customers, making you the master of your trade.
